Question: Hi, I hope you can help me. I am concerned because when a penis is inserted at about 5 inches into my vagina, it begins to become slightly painful, like a dull ache. Is this normal for a sexual inexperienced female?

Answer: Your partner's penis is likely hitting against your cervix. Some women enjoy this while others find it painful. It has nothing to do with your inexperience. It could be an indication you are not sufficiently aroused, meaning your vagina has not lengthened fully. It could also indicate a medical problem, but if this is so, a cause may be hard to isolate. You may not have a medical problem, as this could be normal for you. My suggestion is for you to get on top and control the depth of penetration. It is possible that intercourse is not an appropriate activity for you to engage in, for physical reasons. Continue to experiment, but when you feel pain always stop your partner. It is not your fault or an indication that you are doing anything wrong. If you do not enjoy it, don't do it. If your partner is not understanding of your situation, they obviously do not care about you or your well being and pleasure, and do not deserve to have sex with you.
