Question: If you have forgotten whether you removed a tampon, and you have checked to see if it is there, is there anyway you wouldn't be able to feel if it was still inserted.Answer: The vagina is a closed potential space. When in a relaxed state, the walls of the vagina are only 6-7.5 cm (2.5-3 inches) in length. You probably can insert your finger into your vagina and touch your cervix, especially if you bear down like when you are having a bowel movement. The two different tampons I measured are both 4.4 cm (1.75 inches) long. That means, even if you push one all the way in, they will only be about 3 cm (1.25 inches) from your vaginal opening. This means, the tampon will be within reach of your index finger if you should insert it into your vagina. If there is a tampon in your vagina, you will be able to feel it with your finger. A tampon cannot get lost in your vagina. If you should forget about an inserted tampon, you will most likely start to notice an unpleasant odor and possibly a vaginal discharge. Your body will let you know you forgot to remove it. If you cannot remember if you removed your last tampon, just slip a lubricated finger into your vagina and feel around. It doesn't hurt to double check.
