Question: I am fourteen years old. Lately I've been 'experimenting', so to say, with my body. I've been trying to have an orgasm but I can't seem to do it. I've tried everything listed on your site, including not thinking about it, practiceing, fantasizing and so forth but nothing will work! I get really frustrated sometimes. Once I tried and urine came out instead, it felt really good but thats all that came out. Once in a while after masturbating my vaginal area will be covered in sticky white stuff that I'm not sure what it is. What is that? What is the sticky white stuff and how come I can't have an orgasm? If you could help me and send me some advice I would be so grateful!

Answer: First, it is great that you are exploring you body to see how it works. Second, congratulation on having the courage to ask these very personal questions.

I suspect you already have had your first orgasm. When you squirted what you thought was urine and experienced increased pleasure, that was an orgasm accompanied by what is called "female ejaculation." Female ejaculation is normal and many women experience it. It is simply the release of fluid through your urethra. The fluid released may have been what is called female ejaculate, urine, or a mixture of both. You have no control over what comes out, and you should not try to. In the future, if while masturbating, you feel the urge to "urinate," do not fight that feeling or shy away from it. Relax and push out, and if possible cry out. Give yourself and your body permission to squirt and get wet. Lay on a folded towel or do this in the tub if you are concerned about the wetness. You can read more about Female Ejaculation in the Orgasm section of the website.

I suspect you did not give all the different masturbation techniques mentioned on the website a fair chance at working, if you tried them all so quickly. Stop trying to have an orgasm, and discover what feels good. Orgasms are nice, but they are not necessarily better than the pleasure you get from touching yourself. Masturbation should be fun, if it isn't, you are doing something wrong, perhaps trying too hard.

You are young and your body and mind are changing quickly. It is going to take time to figure out how your mind and body work together. Just as it takes some girls longer to make the transition from girl to woman, so can it take longer for some to learn to masturbate to orgasm. Your body simply may not be ready or want to experience orgasm yet. You are fourteen, give yourself a break ;-)

The vaginal/cervical mucus your body produces is dependent on what point you are in your menstrual cycle. If you start keeping tract of what your vaginal discharge is like each day, on a calendar, you will likely find the sticky white discharge occurs during the same time period of each menstrual cycle.

The mucus discharge can be very sticky and elastic. If you take a little of this fluid between the tips of your thumb and index finger, and slowly separate them, it will stretch just like bubble gum. You might want to experiment with your body fluids just to get a better idea of what they are. Smell, taste, touch, and look at them closely. They each serve a purpose and are beneficial and necessary now that you are a young woman.

The fluid your vagina and cervix produce depends on whether your body is trying to aid sperm in fertilzing an egg or prevent it; that is if you have vaginal intercourse with a boy. Both the acidity and slippyness of your vagina contribute to your fertility on any given day. Not only must you have a egg cell that is ready to be fertilized, but your vagina and cervix must present a friendly environment to sperm if you are to become pregnant. Now, your body goes through these changes during every menstrual cycle, so getting pregnant is not difficult, even if it sounds like a complex process.
