Question: I have a weird question for you. I don't have a clitoral hood like the ones in your pictures. Mine is not right on top of my clitoris but actually to the side. It does cover the clitoris because it is slightly larger than the tip of a Q-tip and hangs. It looks nothing like a penis and has no feeling. I have been pregnant before, and during the pregnancy (which ended up being ectopic due to the fact that I became pregnant while on Depo Provera), it became somewhat swollen. I looked in your FAQ's and pictures and saw nothing like this, and became a little concerned. I have gone to different gynecologists and an OBGYN just for normal checkups and no one has ever said anything about it- so I was never concerned until browsing your site. Everything else is normal- I have no problem achieving orgasm or anything like that. Do I need to be concerned or have you heard of this before?
Answer: If you looked through the photos on the website you will have noticed every vulva is unique, with its own appearance. There is just no way to define what a "normal" vulva looks like, because there is so much variation in size and shape.
The placement of your hood may have to do with the shape and location of your outer labia. Perhaps they push it off to one side. I would not be concerned about, even if you are the only one to have this particularly shaped hood. Unless a doctor noted a medical problem, they would not likely comment on the shape of your vulva, and it would be inappropriate too. They do not want to make a woman feel there is something wrong with her vulva, even if she just has a unique one.
I am not sure if you meant that your clitoris has no feeling or if you meant your hood has no feeling. This too is not a concern as long as you know of a means of reaching orgasm. We are all different; we just need to learn to accept those differences.
There are many photos of vulvas in the Body Image section of the website. Photos on this page show some unevenness in some of the vulvas shown.
