Question: Why does it hurt when I have sex (intercourse) and I'm not a virgin? I have had sex lots of times before but it hurts each time I do.

Answer: There are several possible causes. You may not be adequately lubricated, wet, your pelvic muscles may be tight or constricted, your hymen may still be partially intact, or you have an infection involving your vulva or vagina.

Try to locate the source of the pain you experience. Explore and examine your vulva and vagina with your fingers and a mirror. See if you can insert your fingers into your vagina without causing pain. You should be able to insert two-three fingers into your vagina without experiencing pain.

I recommend that you do not have intercourse again, until you find the cause of this pain. If you continue to engage in painful intercourse, things will likely get worse. What is a physical problem will become a psychological one. Pain is bad, period. Do not abuse your body.

You may need to see a doctor. Do not allow them to dismiss the pain. It is not just in your head, nor will it just get better on its own.
